Celebrating National Skills Week 2024

Friday  30th August 2024

We had an incredible time celebrating National Skills Week with a series of engaging events at our Vocational Innovation Centre.

Our students, alongside Vardys Road PS, showcased their teamwork by building working plumbing systems. 7A and 8A classes dove into hands-on lessons on circuits and Individual Support activities, while our Inclusive Education unit got creative by designing and racing paper F1 cars on the racetrack! Year 8 also explored various careers through the fun and informative ‘What’s My Line?’ activity.

This term, some of our Year 10 students are also getting a taste of TAFE courses, exploring exciting pathways for their future.

A huge shoutout to Mrs Matchett, Mr Kerr, and Mr Jones for hosting these amazing lessons and making National Skills Week a success!

Drainage class in action

Friday 29th March 2024

For students who enjoy technical activities, interpreting plans and working with their hands, the CPC20720 Certificate II in Drainage is a great introduction to the plumbing trade. With the current skills shortage of qualified tradespeople throughout Australia, there’s never been a better time to get yourself a trade. You’ll gain skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to carry out core plumbing competencies in a safe and efficient manner, and to the standard of quality and finish expected of the industry.

Tuesday 12th March 2024

As part of our Primary School Engagement Initiative, Mrs Matchett visited Noumea Public School with Industry volunteers to facilitate “What’s My Line” in partnership with Schools Industry Partnership for sixty year 5 and 6 students. The students asked a series of yes/no questions to determine the profession of eight industry professionals in their everyday clothes. While the volunteers left to change into their uniform’s students tallied their guesses. On their return the trades people introduced themselves and then spent time with small groups of students to tell them about their job, journey and answer any questions the students had.
